Stretch Mate takes a fundamentally different approach. It's a patented carpet stretcher head attachment built around a dual-plate gripping system: front and rear plates carry strategically positioned spikes that grip the carpet backing through controlled friction rather than penetration. The spikes engage the fibers firmly enough to stretch the material, but never puncture through to the subfloor. Because the grip comes from friction rather than a spike driven into the floor, Stretch Mate also works on vinyl and concrete—surfaces where traditional stingers are simply unusable.
The attachment connects to any standard carpet stretcher body and adds a pivoting head with an adjustable extension rod, giving installers precise control over tension angle and pressure. The result is uniform tension across the room, fewer callbacks for wrinkles, and noticeably faster installs—without a kicker in sight.

For inventor Michael Nilson, the motivation was personal and familiar. "Every carpet installer I know has knee problems or has dealt with damaged carpet on a job," he said. "Stretch Mate was designed to eliminate all of that. It grips without puncturing, stretches without a kicker, and works on any subfloor." The tool is constructed from lightweight aluminum and stainless steel, with removable, replaceable spike plates and a setup simple enough to need no specialized training.
